Il Bisonte: The Stamperia and School

Since its founding in 1959 by Maria Luigi Guaita, the "Stamperia" or print workshop collaborated with renowned artists including Henry Moore, Picasso, Lipchitz, Matta, Tamayo, Nathan Oliveira and Giò Pomodoro. The workshop's impressive print collection is available for viewing, as well as rotating shows in its gallery.
The School, founded in 1983, is located in the impressive former stables of the Palazzo Serristori on the Arno River's "left bank." This neighborhood of San Niccolò — in the historic heart of the old center of Florence close to the Pitti Palace, Uffizzi, Ponte Vecchio, Santa Croce Church, and the Piazzale Michelangelo — is filled with artisans' workshop and characteristic atmosphere. Short walks lead to the important sights in town.

Some thoughts on the workshop:
This week before class starts especially is an opportunity for experienced artists and beginners alike to take a personal artistic journey in Florence. Writers and photographers, scrapbook junkies or those just interested, people participating in Artist Way groups can consider this their artist's date and enjoy themselves creating a personal record or diary or scrapbook of their journey while touring Florence or other Italian cities on their own. Suspend judgement and just enjoy yourself. Find creativity you may not have known existed, unblock your creative engine or simply expand upon what you are doing now. This will affect you -- as the sights, sounds and aromas of Florence and Tuscany will linger with you when you return home. Explore, expound and experiment in Florence Italy!
